DINERO
“Dinero” is a Spanish word meaning “money”, as well as a slang term for money here in the US.
Apparently, we sometimes refer to money as “cabbage” because a bunch of green bills resembles a head of cabbage.
While cabbage might not be the most traditional topping for tacos, it can add a delicious and crunchy element to your taco creations. Shredded cabbage or coleslaw mix works well as a fresh and crisp topping that complements various types of tacos. Here are a few ways you can incorporate cabbage into your taco recipes:
- Fish Tacos: Cabbage is a popular topping for fish tacos. You can toss shredded cabbage with lime juice, cilantro, and a bit of salt to create a simple slaw to place on top of your fish tacos.
- Chicken Tacos: Shredded cabbage can add a nice crunch to chicken tacos. Consider mixing it with diced tomatoes, red onion, and a squeeze of lime for a refreshing topping.
- Pork Tacos: Whether you’re making pulled pork tacos or carnitas, shredded cabbage can provide a contrasting texture. Try tossing it with a tangy slaw dressing made with vinegar, oil, and a touch of sugar.
- Vegetarian Tacos: Cabbage works well in vegetarian tacos too. Mix it with other veggies, such as bell peppers and onions, for a colorful and crunchy topping.
- Taco Bowls: If you’re serving taco bowls, shredded cabbage can serve as a bed for your taco ingredients. It adds volume and a satisfying crunch to the bowl.
Feel free to experiment with different seasonings, herbs, and dressings to customize the cabbage to your liking. Whether you use green cabbage, red cabbage, or a mix, it can be a versatile and healthy addition to your taco repertoire.
